Welcome to the University of California, Santa Barbara community!

Your decision to attend UCSB is the beginning of what we know will be an extremely rewarding experience for you and your family. While this is no doubt an exciting time for you, the transition into a university community can also be challenging for both students and their parents.

UCSB Orientation Programs is fully committed and prepared to guide you through this transition, even with the challenges due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Our primary concern is the health and safety of all members of the UCSB community. Therefore, we are implementing an online orientation program this summer for both students and families.

Our online program will be a complete orientation experience with academic advising, presentations, workshops, course registration for freshmen, interactions with advisors, and opportunities to get your questions answered. More information will be posted here on our website in the coming weeks, including details on how and when to reserve your space, how to participate in the online remote sessions, and what actions you will need to take so that the program is successful for you.

Our Student Orientation program will introduce you to UCSB, student life, important student services, and academic expectations at the university level. Students who participate in Orientation will receive extensive academic advising and meet remotely with staff and continuing UCSB students. Freshmen will register for their fall quarter classes during their virtual session. Transfer students will receive advising and prepare to register for classes after transfer online sessions have taken place, allowing their major departments to clear prerequisites and ensure they are able to register for the appropriate courses.

Parents can play an important role in promoting the personal development and academic success of their student during the college years. For this reason, UCSB has designed a Parent & Family Orientation program, available in English and Spanish, that will help parents to support, understand, and encourage their student during the transition to university life. Each Parent & Family Orientation session includes a separate schedule that will address the concerns and interests of parents of an entering college student. Parents who plan to attend the remote Orientation session must be included on the student's online reservation form.

Although we are disappointed about not seeing you at our traditional in-person experience, we appreciate your willingness to make this adjustment and connect with us in new ways. As always, our mission is to provide resources and support in facilitating the success of new students.

We hope that you will join us for this specially designed Orientation program this summer. We look forward to meeting you!
